Differentiation and accessibility

Skill sprints work when you support access without reducing cognitive demand. The most reliable scaffold is chunking: split a 1,000-word text into three sections with a single guiding question for each. For writing, provide sentence stems that prompt reasoning rather than fill-in-the-blank answers, such as “This suggests… because…”. For maths, allow multiple representations (bar model, table, equation) but require the same explanation standard.

Language scaffolds matter across all years. Pre-teach a small set of high-utility words (compare, therefore, estimate, proportion) and revisit them in quizzes and exemplars.
